The INR Clinic is led by a Registered Nurse who will help you manage your warfarin medication. Warfarin is a medication prescribed to prevent blood clots from forming. While on warfarin, patients need to have their INR checked frequently to ensure their blood is not clotting too quickly or too slowly.
Patients in this program meet with a Registered Nurse regularly to have their INR checked with a device called a CoaguChek. This device is able to check a patient’s INR with only a small drop of blood from their finger, rather than patients having to go to a lab for a regular blood test. Based on the patient’s INR value, the Registered Nurse will give directions about the dose of warfarin the patient needs to take each day. The Registered Nurse also provides health teaching about different lifestyle factors that can impact an individual’s INR.
