Feeding Picky Eaters

In partnership with the STAR Family Health Team and Happy Valley Family Health Team Registered Dietitians, this education and support group for parents of children 1-5 years old provides strategies and tips for supporting a picky eater.

The sessions explore strategies to help reduce picky eating and support children in developing a healthy relationship with food. Based on Ellyn Satter’s model “Division of Responsibility in Feeding”. This model provides a structure for parents to follow to help children eat a variety of foods, eat the right amount for their growing bodies and help children learn to participate in pleasant family mealtimes.

Benefits to following this model include:

  • Reduced mealtime stress
  • Higher nutrient intakes in young children
  • Reduced risk for obesity and eating disorders
  • Positive mental health outcomes
